We're getting married in March of 2007. Which resort do you recommend for 1st timers? COR looks great but I don't really know what to look for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You can't go wrong with any Couples Resort! We go to COR and absolutly love it! COR has a beach that is private from other resorts, beautiful water, a fabulous, friendly staff, excellent food, fun entertainment, water sports, included excursions to Dunn River Falls, horseback riding, and shopping. And you can't forget Tower Island! If you have specific questions, you can email me. Cathymasterson61@hotmail.com

I was a first timer for my honeymoon in August and while I think you have to choose the resort that "speaks to you" (a phrase I picked up on the message board :-)), I'll tell you why CSA spoke to us:
1. We kept hearing it had the best beach
2. We were not interested in AN and it's the only Couples resort that doesn't have it
3. We were told that it was a good mix between romantic and active (and COMPLETELY agree)
4. It was closer to the airport then CSS and COR (same distance as CN)
5. Liked the restaurant selections.

So..basically...it comes down to what you're looking for.

Good luck, and rest assured that with Couples you can't go wrong!

Depends on what your looking for and which resort calls to you. We love CSS because of it's beauty and relaxed atmosphere and we must have an A/N area but that's just us! However, each resort has it's own charm, so beauty is definately in the eye of the beholder. Compare your interest to what each resort offers, research, read the board, check out the pics and go with your heart. I truly don't think you could make a bad decision as long as you choose Couples!

Tell us more about you. What makes a vacation great for you? All the resorts are wonderful and you will get an argument for all 4.

Stephdash...For our honeymoon we also went to COR and had a great time! It was unforgetable!!!! It has all the great amenities that the other properties have, but each one just has its own unique style. COR is not as big as the other properties especially the beach. But, it makes up by having " THE TOWER ISLAND ".
Just like the other properties, the people are great...from the friendly staff to the other couples that could be life-long friends, and the best food you could ever eat! Not to mention the top quality drinks!!! I think whichever property you choose you won't go wrong. Since my husband and I love to lounge, be back to nature, and just have alone time together we chose to stay at CSA this year. We had everything we wanted right down to my own hammock... on my own patio... in front of a courtyard a few steps away from the beach which all took me back to when I was a little girl living near the beach. We loved it immensely!!!! SO...It all just depends on your taste in properties. I suggest to look at the photos from other guests, virtual tours, and read the mb's. It'll give you insights of other guest's reviews on each property. Cngratulations!!!

We went to CSA in August this year which was AWESOME! This is the only resort of the four without an "AN" area. The beach is superb and the staff fantastic. From what I've read and seen, the beach & water at CSA are calmer and perhaps better leant to watersports (if that's your thing).
I guess the spread of the property is bigger than the others so it might seem less populated but I can't say that with any authority because as yet, we haven't benn to any other COUPLES resorts. We are planning to return to Jamaica next summer and do 7 nights in COR, then 7 in CN - I've got 35% of the money in the savings account already and we cannot wait!

Stephdash

Look at as many pictures as you can find! Sooner or later one of the resorts will speak out to you with features that attract you.

There is no resort that is better or worse for a first time guest, as each resort is GREAT no matter whether it is your first time or 100th.

We all have our favorite resort because we found features that we found for us. What we may like you might not.

Each resort is designed differently which makes it impossible to make comparisons.

Look at all the pictures and listen to that inner voice!

If you want pictures of CN, CSA or COR send me an email and I will send you a link to a site. RDYJMJM@AOL.COM

You are going to get comparable (and excellent) service, food, etc. at all the resorts. So you need to look at the difference.

If you want a nude beach, CSS, CN and COR have it. CSA does not.

If you want a more beautiful beach, Negril is the place and that would be CSA and CN.

If you want room service for lunch and dinner, that would be CSS.

I would look at the pictures of the resorts and see which one appeals to you and your fiance. You only go on one honeymoon so look at the rooms, the grounds, and the amenties of each resort and chose the one that seems the best.

Why would you assume that one resort is better or worse for first timers? Look at all of the information provided and select the resort that you find most appealing. Each resort has its own distinct charms; I'm sure you'll be pleased no matter which of the four resorts you choose.

Last April was our first time at CSA and next April 12 we will be returning. We have been to Jamaica 9 times and CSA is the best Resort we have stayed at. It's everything we love about a resort, fantastic beach, beautiful grounds, and great food. Oh I left out the terrific sunsets!!!

Stephdash,

I too was very torn on picking a resort. I initally picked CSS, but ended up switching to CSA and it was the best decision I could have made. CSA is amazing! The food is wonderful, the beach and water are gorgeous. The staff is so incredibly helpful and nice. The room(BFVS) was amazing. I loved everything about CSA and so did my other half. We spent alot of time on the beach and at the swim up bar. We did the catamaran cruise(fun) and we snokled and scuba dived. If I could do it again, I'd skip the snorkle and do the scuba. It's great. All in all it was the perfect place for us. I just don't think you can go wrong with CSA. We loved it so much, we're going back in June and we can hardly wait. If you pick CSA, you won't be disappointed!

No one can answer this for you. If we knew more about you, it might help us focus our answers, but the messageboard is full of regular posters trying to help people and we all have our favorites. While the four resorts are similar in some of the features, they are all unique in their own special way.

My suggestion is to start first with the two Jamaican island differences.

COR and CSS are a few miles apart in Ocho Rios. A 2.5 hour ride each way from the airport. Beaches are smaller, but adequate, and private. There is a cruise port near Ocho Rios that can have 1-3 large cruise ships daily. This does not affect the two private resorts, but can give more of a touristy feel offsite, but there are wonderful excursions you can time when the cruise ships are not in force. Dunn's Falls is included at both CSS and COR and is great for first timers to get a free offsite day trip. There are several other well known excurions that you can purchase in the area. The Catamaran cruise is included at COR as is horseback riding. Neither of these is available at CSS, but you can purchase the horseback riding as an excursion and CSS is the only resort of the four with room service until 11PM.

CN and CSA are in Negril, a few miles apart. Roughly a 90 minute bus ride from the airport. The beaches are whiter, and longer, but are more public, meaning vendors and others may pass through. There are wonderful offsite excursions, but not quite as well known as those in Ocho Rios.
Because the beaches are larger, there is flag service where they bring you your drink.

CN, CSS, and COR have private A/N areas. You can try them or avoid them without impacting your visit. CSA does not.

There are many other wonderful differences, and those of us with opinions are firm in our reasons, but our reasons may not apply to you.

If I wasn't so shy, I'd tell you the truth and guide you to CSS that we call "home", but since I'm shy about these sorts of things, hopefully someone else will for me. :-)

You picked the right Resort Name, Couples all the way, you just need to let your heart tell you which is the right resort of the four for you.

good luck.

This type of question always gets a lot of varied responses. Almost everyone that goes to a Couples resort, regardless of which one it is, usually falls in love with that place. It becomes their favorite. This happened to us as well. We have only been to COR. We have been there 22 times, with 23 coming in less than 20 days. We fell in love with what we saw. And even though we have not been to the other three resorts, I have seen nothing in any of the reviews, and there have been many, that would pull me away from COR.

First of all the staff. Over the years we have become friends with many of the staff and their families. Some of the people we met back in 1993 are still there. We have met their kids, and their grandkids, and it would be very difficult to not see them when we return.

The grounds of COR are beautiful, as are the grounds of the other three. But we feel a great sence of being "home", with all that is familiar to us. The old world charm of COR is unique. After all, it is the original Couples resort.

The food and drink is outstanding. And I know the other three resorts boast of this as well. The activities, of which there are many, will fill your day.

But for us, one of the most outstanding features of COR, is Tower Isle. We love the seclusion of being out on that tiny coral outcropping. We have met, and continue to meet, some of the most interesting and warm folks you will find anywhere. Of course, if your not in to the "Au Natural" thing, than TI will hold no special meaning.

The bottom line is, you can't go wrong with choosing any of the four Couples resorts. Read the reviews. Look at the pictures. Something will call out to you, and as many have said, the resort will choose you.

COR and CSS are in Ocho Rios. You can't walk in to town at night. There isn't anything else around that is close. CNN and CSA are in Negril. There, the beach is more than five miles long, and you can walk along and see other resorts, and guests. You can walk into town at night. There is lots to see and do.

So put the names of the four resorts on the wall, throw a dart, and your home. You won't be sorry with your choice.

Now see what others who answer this post have to say.

If this is your 1st time to any Couples resort, you MUST visit the original Couples Ocho Rios. COR is the granddaddy of 'em all.

Your only problem will be an unwillingness to visit anyother resort after experiencing COR.

We actually did a coin toss! CN or CSS with CSS the winner. What a perfect, romantic, wonderful vacation. we said we would do CN the next time and that is exactly what we are doing in May for our 25th.
Look at every picture you can get your hands on, think about it. and maybe you too will need to toss a coin! :-)

Hey..I have an opinion..Yep I do.

I truly think there is a best resort and it is CN..Couples Negril..The "premier" resort of Couples.

We visited COR for our first Couples visit. We fell in love. We considered doing Secret Rendezvous for our next visit, but loved COR and what the resort and the staff have to offer, that we just booked our next Couples visit to COR for next July. We can't wait. We were indecisive at first also, but COR kept calling us back, so that is where, after hours here and the website and other travel sites, we ended up going.
