Hello all - we have 3 days until we visit Couples San Souci for the first time - we'll be there from June 10-17 and we're really looking forward to it! I was just wondering - do they have Internet ports in the rooms so if you have a laptop, you can plug in and get high-speed Internet? If not, do they have wireless access? I don't want to take the laptop if we can't access e-mail/Internet on it when we're there.

Also, what kind of batteries do those AM/FM-CD Players that are in the rooms take and how many do they need?

Lastly, what are "shower shoes" that some of you have been referring to for Dunn's River Falls? Regular flip-flops, or something else?

Just curious...thanks for any info you can provide.

There are no rooms with internet ports. We were in room E-12 (right by the balloon room) and were able to get the wireless access on our balcony but not inside. The game room has wireless access and 2 computers for guest use.

The CD players plug in so we did not need batteries.

We took Aqua Socks for Dunns River and they worked great.

Enjoy! We went in May and it was fantastic. Please let me know if you have more questions, I would be happy to help.

I did notice that there is free wi-fi at CSS now - does anyone know whether you have to go down to the lobby or someplace other than your room to be able to pick it up on the laptop?

Again, much help would be appreciated in answering my questions. Thanks!

Jayna78:

We were there in Dec 05 and let me say you will love CSS if you enjoy a quite romantic vacation with the love of your life.
Now to your questions, it is my understanding that there is wireless access in the games room but there was no internet access in the rooms when we were there.
The radio in our room was electric I did not check to see if it was battery powered.
I think the shower shoes you are refering to are also called water shoes, which from what I saw were a soft shoe made from wet suit type material. They provide a little better traction on the rocks when you are climbing Dunn's River and they also come in handy if you want to go into the ocean at sunset beach as it is a little rocky in front of the river.
Enjoy your trip to CSS, I know we certainly did.

The reason I was asking about batteries was in case we wanted to take our room's CD player down to the beach when we lay out. Does anyone know?

Thanks for your help so far!

Flip flops are not allowed to climb the falls and having climbed twice, flip flops would not be practical. You are climbing up rocks that have rushing water over them. Flip flops would just put you at risk for ankle or foot injury. Both times I climbed, I used old sneakers. I still had a pair for other tours as the ones I wore to climb the falls did not dry for a week..

I think the CD palyers are plug-in only. Plus there is great music piped through out the resort, including the beach so you won't need to bring a radio along. One less thing to carry.
Have fun, LisaS

Actually, I would ask you not to take the CD down to the beach. We like to listen to the ocean, not someone else's taste in music. I believe what you want is an MP3 player. You get the music, but don't disturb others.

Jayna,

As indicated the shoes being referred to are "water shoes", you can get them at Target, Walmart, or Sporting Good stores such as Dick's very reasonable. You can also rent shoes there, but the shoes are low enough cost that it's worth having your own. As Vicky indicated, you can use old sneakers, the key is tractionand toe protection. There are a few steep spots. I also concur with Happy, that they are great if you go in the ocean on the A/N beach. Most people used the pool, very few went into the ocean, but we enjoyed it. You won't need the shoes in the water at the main beach main beach.

The other tip on Dunn's is to wear your swimsuit under your clothes. The bus/transport/guide used by Couples does not use the public lockers at Dunn's, everything is kept safely on the bus with the driver.

The wireless is limited range near the game room only. You can use the two computers available for internet, or take your laptop and use it in the game room or tables outside.

The music piped onto the beach is not easy to hear in most areas, so while the room CD players from the room may not be appropriate, many people bring MP3 players.

Hi, Jayna78. Can't say if this is the case for all the suites at CSS, but in 'ours' (E-1O)the CD player was actually hard-wired into the outlet. (We noticed this when ours began sparking/arcing one day.It was repaired promptly after we called it in). Enjoy your trip to Paradise !

Thanks everyone for your help! :-) I figured Dunn's River Falls would be rocky and unsafe for flip-flops or sandals, but I wasn't sure if tennis shoes would work, or if it would be better just to go get some water shoes, which I will probably end up doing at this point.

We were just wondering about the radio and its battery situation b/c we have Sirius satellite radio and might like to listen to it outside - non-stop commercial-free music is great, especially when you're just relaxing. :-) We have Sirius, but we don't have MP3 players - we were just curious whether the CD players in the room could be used on the beach b/c there is a way to plug a Sirius adapter/antenna into those little boomboxes and pipe it on through there. I guess if we want to do that, we'll just figure out something else. I don't know if Sirius even picks up there, anyway, but we'll be giving it a shot, at least in our room.

Thanks again!

Didn't test the Sirius, but other posters indicated it worked for them from CSA. CSA is on the "left coast", but I doubt if the "right coast" would be any different, if you can get the antenna pointed in the right direction. Do this before you drink the Bob Marley's. :-)

At CSS that would be roughly to the left if you're facing the ocean, pretty much over or to the left slightly of the A/N beach. (Let us know and I'll sneak mine in the bag for next time!).

I wore a pair of sandals that had a secure strap around the ankle and over the toes, they worked fine for traction but allowed the small rocks and fine gravel to get under my feet. The rental water shoes at Dunn's River are alright but depending on what pair you get they can be pretty old and beat up, also you never know who was last wearing them. For those reasons it may be a good idea to purchase your own pair. As Ineed indicated you should wear a swimsuit and maybe a t-shirt when walking the river and remember to but your money in something waterproof. The guides are always looking for a tip when you finish the climb and it is hard to seperate wet money gracefully.

Buy your water shoes at home before you go. They are much cheaper at your local Walmart, Target, or K-Mart and could even be on sale. You will get a better quality and choice. These take up very little room in your suit case.

I just bought a pair of adult water shoes at WalMart last night for just under $5. They had more expensive ones, but these seem like they will be fine for my son who is leaving today to go to the lake where his grandparents live. If I remember correctly when he climbed the falls two years ago with me, it was $5 to rent the shoes.

We are here right now (we arrived Saturday, leave this Saturday), and we're really enjoying it so far. :-) I found water shoes at Target for $4.49 before we left, though they're a little big for my size 6 feet - I went to several stores and couldn't find size 6s anywhere. They'll be good enough, though. We're going to Dunn's River Falls tomorrow and are looking forward to it. :-)

By the way, Sirius radio picks up here just fine, and it was easy to hook to our in-room CD player and listen to this morning for a little while. :-)
